Roman Holiday

New york is one of the best places to be in the summer, apart from the almost unbearable humidity!

Every Monday at Bryant park they played a film on a massive screen. It was such a surreal expreince having a picnic watching a film in the middle of the city. Over the summer they have outdoor films playing in lots of parks all over the city.

I went to see the film Roman Holiday, I have to admit I had never watched a black & white film before but after watching the film it will not be my last! Not only did I love the film but I also fell in love with the flawless Aubrey Hepburn! I completely understand what the big fuss over her is all about!

Aubrey Hepburn to this day is still a style icon.

The film is a 1954 romantic comedy set in Rome. The story is about Princess Anne who embarks on a highly publicized tour of Europian capitals. When she and her royal entourage arrive in Rome, she begins to rebel against her restricted, regimented schedule. One night Anne sneaks out of her room, hops into the back of a delivery truck and escapes her luxurious confinement. However, a sedative she was forced to take earlier starts to take effect, and the princess is soon fast asleep on a public bench. She is found by Joe Bradley, an American newspaper reporter stationed in Rome. He takes her back to his apartment. The next morning Joe dashes off to cover the Princess Anne press conference, unaware that she is sleeping on his couch! Once he realizes his good fortune, Joe promises his editor an exclusive interview with the princess. was so good and i continued to talk like a princess for the rest of the night!

Roman Holiday has inspired me to watch more classic films, next on my list is:

  • Breakfast at Tiffany's
  • How to Marry a Millionaire
  • Psycho
  • The Heiress

No Pain, No Gain

Although I went to New York to do a Fashion Internship I also had a lot of free time, in which I got to explore and really get a feel of the City...... which I fell in love with!

My first love is shoes!!!

When it comes to buying shoes I defiantly do not do comfort, but as long as they look amazing! New York spoilt me for choice and I defiantly indulged to say the least!

These were a few Steven Madden shoes that I brought! Steven Madden is a USA based shoe company which have stores world wide. They have recently expanded and are now available to buy in the UK. The shoes are amazing quality and defiantly worth every penny!

My other pair of shoes I brought in New York were my Rollerblades! I did intend to use them a lot more than I did, However when I did use them going down the Hudson River and round Central Park it was the most fun ever! I unfortunately had to part with them when I left the city as they were far too heavy!

By the end of our time in New York we had an impressive book shelf with all our favourite shoes!

New York is a must-go for on trend shoes and just fashion all round. Everywhere you look there is something interesting going on and people wearing crazy clothes. New York is defiantly the best place to be for the Fashion industry and I have plans to return and work there in the future!

Fashion Internship in the Big Apple

In May 2012 I started my Internship at NL Collective in New York City for 3 months. NL Collective Group is a multinational creative business development firm with focus in luxury, sport & lifestyle divisions, and retail brands. They specialise in business development, creative directing, branding, marketing and sales.

At my time at NL Collective I was the Sales/Marketing assistant. My role involved:
  • Supporting the sales and marketing director
  • Using my creativity to create pitches to send to buyers
  • Attending buyer appointments with the sales and marketing director to get designers represented by the company into stores
  • Dropping off samples, mail samples and kept track of the general traffic of samples in and out of the showroom
  • Finding new stores to pitch our designers too

Here is an example of one of my pitches I made for the designers Young&ng and Julia de Ville using Photoshop:

The internship was an amazing experience, I learnt so much and there was never a boring moment. There was so much going on in the office with photo- shoots for new look-books to buyers coming in and viewing certain designers.  The company is expanding fast and since I have left has got many new designers they are working with.

I have had a lot of people ask me since I got back from New York how I applied for an Internship. I used the website http://freefashioninternships.com/ and applied for jobs through this, its free to use and new internships are posted everyday!
